One of the most visited cities in the world, Paris is also an important business and cultural centre. The world’s most romantic city lies nestled along the Seine River and offers the most renowned museums and monuments in the world. No visit here would be complete without seeing the Champs Elysee with the Arc de Triomphe, the magnificent Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower. Also a famed icon of the city, the Louvre Museum is bursting with masterpieces. A popular holiday destination, Nice is the capital of the French Riviera. Vieux Nice, the old town, offers an Italian ambience and is dotted with galleries, boutiques and restaurants. The daily flower and vegetable market on the Cours Saleya is particularly impressive. Also famous among sun-worshippers are resort towns of Antibes, Cannes and Saint Tropez, along the Cote dAzur. Nearby Cannes is best known for its famous film festival; while Antibes offers sparkling beaches and fine hotels. Saint Tropez is a pricey but stunning resort. Playground of the wealthy and famous, Monaco offers opulent attractions such as the Grand Casino. This Belle Epoque building, enclosed by formal gardens, affords an impressive view over the area. Other interesting sights include the Palais du Prince, the Musee Oceanographique and the Jardin Exotique. Boasting a good mix of cultures from its close links to the Middle East and North Africa, Marseilles is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city. Alternatively, take a daytrip from Paris to the Eure-et-Loir, at the gateway to Normandy and the Loire Valley. Major attractions here include the châteaux in Anet, Châteaudun, Maintenon and Nogent-le-Rotrou. Also worth a visit, Chartres boasts a cathedral listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Burgundy is home to a plethora of vineyards, cellars and, of course, wines. At the core of the region, Morvan offers a pristine setting for walking, sailing and rafting. Also good for outdoors lovers, Châtillonnais and the gentle slopes of Bresse provide good cycling trails. The Savoy and the Alpine region are gorgeous all year round in winter and summer. Alternatively, the Castle of the Dukes of Savoy is the highlight of the old town of Chambery. ' ' |
