A popular destination for the rich and famous and well known for its extravagance, Deauville is home to a spectacular racecourse, alluring casino and plenty of luxury hotels.Getting thereyou can fly into Paris’ Charles de Gaulle or Orly airports and transfer to Deauville by car, train or bus. When driving from Paris, take A13 west to Pont LEvêque, then follow the N177 east to Deauville. There are up-to 10 daily rail connections to Deauville from Paris gare St-Lazare (two hours). The train station is situated between Trouville and Deauville and serviced by taxis. Bus Verts du Calvados serves the Normandy coast from Caen to Le Havre.Information on Deauvilles key attractionsa favourite pastime here is betting on the horses or at the Casino. The Deauville-La Touques racecourse was built in 1864 at the instigation of the Duke of Morny, who was a horse enthusiast. Inside the racecourse are two polo pitches where top international teams play during the summer season. There are free guided tours of the racecourse on Sunday afternoons (racing days only), at 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00. The Casino first opened its doors in 1864, but was demolished in 1895. It was replaced in 1912 by a structure designed by architect Georges Wybo, which took its inspiration from buildings dating from the 18th century. Since then, the Casino’s façade has been moved forward by six metres, enabling a large gallery to be created, and the building is now open on the seaward side. It is the third largest casino in France.Out and aboutthe less-touristy Trouville is just 15kms down the coast. This lovely resort is a good place to get away, but still attracts many visitors with its vibrant bars and restaurants where you can feast on seafood. Popular attractions include the Aquarium and Nautical Centre. The casino, Le Louisiane Follies, has plenty of gaming rooms, slot machines, concerts, festivals and exhibitions to keep you entertainedLeisure optionsescape the crowds by enjoying a stroll along the Planches, a mile-long wooden pathway which runs along the back of the lovely beach. Deauville is all about luxury, and you can spoil yourself in the sports and cure facilities and private swimming huts that adjoin the beach.SafetyWhen travelling to an unfamiliar environment, remain alert for potential hazards. Holidaymakers are more susceptible to pickpocketing, especially around the racecourse. Outdoor activities can also place you at greater risk of having an accident. Language barriers and strange routines can also result in missed travel arrangements or problematic bookings. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance for you or your family when visiting Deauville.Weather in DeauvilleNorthern France has a more temperate climate. Rainfall is distributed throughout the year. Deauville is a seaside resort on the Norman Riviera. The best time to visit is in April-October, but August can be a bit hot. Day temperatures range from 23-33C with the evenings cooling down to about 15C
