The city of Luxor (also spelled Al Uqsur) is the gateway to the famed Valley of the Kings, featuring a multitude of ancient temples and royal tombs including those of Rameses the Great and Tutankhamen. The airport’s new, fully air-conditioned terminal building, which is open 24 hours a day, was completed in 2005. The terminal was designed to accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year. There are 48 check-in desks and 10 gates. Scheduled flights connect with domestic destinations and key points in Europe, notably the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Luxor International Airport is situated 6kms east of the city.Airport parking at LuxorShort- and long-term parking for cars and buses is available at the car park situated across from the terminal entrance.Getting to and from LuxorThe airport is just off the 02 highway which runs along the east bank of the Nile River. A main road leads directly from the airport into Luxor city centre. Regular bus service is available between the airport and the city, but it is generally very crowded. The best way into Luxor is by taxi; the 15-minute drive into the city centre costs about €10.Amenities at Luxor International AirportEssential facilities include a bank, ATMs and currency exchange bureaus, and a post office. Other amenities in the terminal are VIP lounges, a first-aid station and a mosque. Duty-free shops sell a variety of luxury products, while regular shops offer travel-related items, international newspapers, gifts and souvenirs. Dining options are offered at cafeterias located both inside and outside the terminal building, and there is an internet café as well.
