Travel to Argentina

Argentina is a country of stunning natural wonders and boasts an elegant capital city with a touch of European sophistication. Argentineans are passionate about their culture and proud of their history, which shows in their tango dancing, football, and gauchos (cowboys).

Buenos Aires is a city of bustling streets, grand avenues, and old-time cafés and is South America’s most European city. The city has a unique atmosphere and many historic attractions, such as the famed Teatro Colón opera house, Catedral Metropolitana, and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.

Downtown, the Plaza de Mayo, with its grand government buildings, is the focus of activity, while the town’s wide, tree-lined boulevards are home to an endless string of boutiques, stylish cafés and fine restaurants. San Telmo is another affluent area with some outstanding architecture, and Recoleta and Avenida Santa Fe are decidedly chic.

Córdoba is Argentinas second city and was long Buenos Aires’ rival for top city. It has in its compact centre a fine collection of colonial buildings, including the Museo Histórico Provincial Marqués de Sobremonte, one of the most important historical museums in the country, and the Iglesia Catedral.

Mar del Plata, on the northern Atlantic coast (400kms southeast of Buenos Aires), is the most prominent beach resort in Argentina and is very popular with locals and visitors alike. Beaches stretch for eight kilometres up and down the coast and posh mansions from the resort’s heyday are in evidence.

Way up near where the borders of Brazil and Paraguay meet northern Argentina, you’ll find Parque Nacional Iguaçu, the location of the awesome Iguaçu Falls. The area also contains historic ruins of Jesuit missions and covers a massive amount of pristine subtropical rainforest with abundant wildlife and plant species.

In the centre of the country is the Pampas, Argentinas agricultural heartland and home of the gaucho. This huge area encompasses several provinces and features extensive, naked grasslands and salt lakes, while the towns of Rosario and Santa Fe offer diversions with their interesting old buildings and museums.

Patagonia is a beautiful part of the world that offers intriguing landscapes and wildlife such as sea lions, elephant seals, penguins and right whales. Perito Moreno Glacier is the highlight and features a 60-metre wall of ice. Great trekking and wildlife spotting can be had in Tierra del Fuego, the extreme south of Argentina, where the scenery is awesome and the weather unforgiving.
