Getting There

Richmond is the enchanting capital of the state and boasts a lengthy history from the days of the American War of Independence to the American Civil War. Famous historical sites here include the State Capitol building – designed by Thomas Jefferson. Richmond National Battlefield Park, which contains monuments to the Civil War, is another main attraction.

Arlington, technically a county in Virginia, is a de facto suburb of Washington, DC. A popular destination, it is named after Arlington House – the Confederate General Robert E Lees residence. The area also contains Arlington National Cemetery, home to the graves of famous Americans, such as John F Kennedy, Howard Taft and General John Pershing. Arlington is also host to the worlds largest building, the very famous Pentagon.

Virginia Beach is a stunning resort city. This rapidly expanding city offers superb beaches, a lively boardwalk and good sport fishing, drawing in tourists from many of the surrounding states on a regular basis. Virginia Beach is also famous for its fresh seafood and attractions like the Cape Henry Memorial Cross, site of the landing of the first colonists in 1607. The lovely Sea Shore State Park is also enjoyable.

Safety

Water sports and activities such as boating and surfing can place holidaymakers at risk of injuries. Be aware that both I-95 and I-81 are heavy-duty truck routes, and accidents are common, so be especially careful while driving on them. Weather in Virginia

Virginia has the classic weather seasons but this varies with the regions. In the low-lying Tidewater area and ion the southeast the winters are usually mild with warm summers. In the mountainous areas and the northeast winters are much colder with large amounts of snow.
