Getting There
The main airports in Mississippi are Jackson-Vicksburg International and Gulfport-Biloxi. Invariably, you’ll have to fly to the likes of Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago and then take a domestic flight. Rail travel is provided by Amtrak to the west and north; while Greyhound coaches link the major towns all over the South and beyond.
I-55 and I-59 both run north-south, with I-55 running through Jackson and up to St Louis (Missouri). I-20 crosses I-55 and I-59 (east-west) from Columbia (South Carolina), through Jackson, to Dallas (Texas) and beyond. A good network of other highways criss-cross the state with scenic alternatives.
Safety
Always take regular breaks when driving long distances and never leave your car parked on a city street at night. Beware pickpockets in busy tourist areas and take extra care if taking part in any water sports activities. US medical services are extremely expensive; therefore, we strongly recommend you take out adequate travel insurance for you and your family
Weather in Mississippi
The subtropical weather is as diverse as the population of Mississippi. Spring and autumn are the perfect times to visit this state, with the month of April being particularly pleasant. It can get very hot and humid in the summer, so dress accordingly
