Getting There

There is an array of international airports to choose from in California: San Francisco International Airport, Oakland International, San Jose International, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Diegos Lindbergh Field Airport. LAX is the third busiest airport in the world. Amtrak has passenger trains that run north/south between and beyond the major metropolitan areas, as well as from San Francisco to the eastern states. Greyhound provides long-distance bus services within the state and to other states.

California offers such a wealth of attractions that it is best explored by road. I-5 is the fastest option going north or south, although US 101 is more picturesque. From northern California, I-80 heads east, while the south offers I-15, I-40, I-10, and I-8, depending on your destination.

Safety

Visitors to major cities like Los Angeles should be aware of crimes such as muggings, pickpocketing and theft. Additionally, carjacking is a real threat for those driving through the state. Be aware of your surroundings and take out travel insurance before visiting California.

Weather in California

California boasts of superb year-round weather, but the conditions can vary dramatically. The central valleys are very hot in summer but somewhat cold in the winter. Southern California is protected from extremes of temperature by the surrounding mountain ranges.
