Camel / Elephant riding (grade 2)

Camel riding or elephant riding is the best way to explore an exotic country - it makes your safari vacation more adventurous and allows you to get closer to nature. It also beats exploring the wild or the desert on foot. Camel riding and elephant riding is not without risks, however. It is best to secure travel insurance when engaging in this activity.

Camel riding is a great way to explore the desert lands, such as in Qatar and the Persian Gulf; while elephant riding is a popular activity in some parts of Africa and in Thailand. Both activities allow you to go across rivers and through dense forests. Camel riding and elephant riding have inherent risks and dangers however. You may incur injuries when you fall from the elephant or camel – which are very big animals. You may also get injured as you are boarding the camel – it can stand up while you are lifting your leg over the saddle, for example, and catapult you into the air.

Camel and elephant rides are also shaky. You may lose your balance as the animal goes faster (such as in camel racing), causing you to fall. This can result in various injuries, depending on the severity of the fall. Injuries can be minor such as bruises, scratches, strains, sprains, and body aches; or more severe, such as fractures, concussions, paralysis, and even death.

Camel riding or elephant riding is considered a Grade 2 risk sport, with low chances of injury. Still, you should play it safe and take travel insurance to be sure you get immediate medical help in case you incur injuries.
