Camel / elephant riding (grade 1)

Camel/elephant riding is a great way to spend your vacation, especially if you're traveling in the summer. It offers a unique way of getting to know the place and mingling with the locals, as well as spending time outdoors. Nature lovers in particular will enjoy sitting on an animal's back, enjoying the scenic countryside. It is also a relatively safe activity, although there are some risks. It is best to secure travel insurance before going camel or elephant riding to make sure any accidents will be covered.

Riding can involve an thirty-minute ride through a reserve, or a camel or elephant safari spanning one or more days. The latter naturally carries more risks, such as heat stroke, dehydration, sunburn, and extreme fatigue from long hours of travel. It also makes you vulnerable to insect bites, which are usually harmless but can carry diseases like malaria and yellow fever. Falls can result in sprains and fractures. Although generally treatable, such conditions can be expensive to treat, especially if you have no travel insurance.

Camel/elephant riding is especially popular in Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East. You can join a tour group (usually six to eight persons) for a guided safari, or visit a park or reserve if you prefer a shorter ride. For day-long rides or longer, ask the guide what you need to bring, such as clothing, food, and water.

Camel/elephant riding has a Grade 1 risk level, making it one of the safest tourist activities. Still, we encourage you to get proper insurance so that you can enjoy the ride without worrying about injury costs.
