Basketball Travel Insurance

If you plan to play basketball while in another country, it is a good idea to secure sports travel insurance. Sports insurance specifically designed for basketball does not only rid you of financial stresses should you get injured and require hospitalization - it also affords you peace of mind so you can concentrate on your game.

Your knees, shoulders, ankles, and hands (fingers) are most exposed to injury when you play basketball. Inflammation of the tendons (known as tendinitis) in the knees can result in a condition called jumper's knees (which affects the kneecap), while Achilles tendinitis causes back leg pains. In worst cases, the Achilles tendon is torn, requiring surgery. Without travel insurance, surgical treatment can be very expensive.

You may also incur ankle sprain - a very common but potentially immobilizing injury - when the ligaments and muscles get torn, either partially or completely as you play basketball. If the surrounding ligaments and muscles are not strong enough to sustain the injury, surgery may be required.

Playing basketball can also cause you to injure the tendons in your shoulders. And because you need to grip and throw the basketball, you may injure (and even break) the muscles and bones in your hands and need to be treated for jammed fingers or fractures.

Basketball is a Grade 1 risk sport. Injuries are generally non-critical but if you want peace of mind, it is wise to secure sports travel insurance.
