Holidaymakers will have lots to do in Dublin
Surreal exhibition in Dublin
18 November 2008Art enthusiasts holidaying in Dublin over the coming months should remember to pay a visit to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) to see an eye-opening exhibition.
The display, which has the attention-grabbing title Exquisite Corpse, will present 17 works from the IMMA''s collection until March 2009 in an attempt to reveal the range of perspectives in the gallery''s collected works.
Its title is drawn from a game that was invented by Surrealist artists in 1925 that involved the assemblage of a random collection of words or images.
The work of a broad range of modern artists features in the exhibition, including Dawn Ades, Gerald Barry, Aileen Corkery and Michael Craig-Martin.
Each participant in the display was asked to select a piece in response to the work that was selected by the previous artist.
The participants were aware only of the selection made by the person directly before them, meaning that the overall nature of the exhibition is random and determined by chance.
A number of other exhibitions are currently open at the IMMA in Dublin, including a display that focuses entirely on images of shadows and silhouettes.
